Storytelling Meets Purpose: Hope Foundation SA Collaborates with Author Keneilwe Seate

At Hope Foundation SA, we believe that every child deserves more than access to education—they deserve stories that reflect who they are, what they face, and who they can become.

This belief has found a beautiful echo in our latest collaboration with South African author and educator, Keneliwe Seate.

Originally from Thaba-Nchu, Keneilwe’s journey from teaching children in Shanghai to creating culturally grounded, empowering storybooks for young readers is nothing short of inspiring. Her debut title, No Banana Shoes!, captures the everyday experiences of young children and transforms them into relatable, joyful learning moments.

Stories That Do More Than Entertain

Keneilwe’s storytelling isn’t just imaginative—it’s educational, healing, and practical. Through stories, she helps children navigate challenges, build confidence, and see themselves in the books they read. Her writing deeply aligns with Hope Foundation SA’s mission to nurture futures through Safety, Nutrition, and Hygiene in ECD spaces.

We are excited to announce that her book, No Banana Shoes!, will be distributed to several ECD centres across South Africa—accompanied by Hope Foundation SA’s educational materials. This bundle of creativity and care will empower both teachers and children to engage with literature that feels real, supportive, and fun.

Through Keneilwe’s work, children can laugh, learn, and see themselves as the heroes of their own stories. Through our resources, they receive the support to grow into healthy, confident learners.

Breaking Barriers: Empowering Young Lives Beyond Early Childhood

At Hope FoundationSA, our mission goes beyond Early Childhood Development—we strive to create a future where all children have the support they need to thrive. Our director, Della Carnegie, recently led an initiative addressing period poverty, highlighting how challenges beyond the early years can impact education and well-being.

During a mentorship session, teenage girls openly shared their struggles with menstrual health, misinformation, and access to sanitary products. Many admitted that period poverty forced them to miss school, limiting their opportunities. By fostering open conversations and providing essential supplies, Della’s initiative empowered these young girls to break the silence and seek support.

Education should never be hindered by a lack of resources, whether in the early years or adolescence. Just as we work to create nurturing learning environments for young children, we support efforts that ensure older students remain in school and reach their full potential. We are proud to see Della championing this cause, reminding us that every stage of a child’s development deserves attention and care.
